Something funny going on at the Holiday Inn
Did you hear the one about the cannibal who thought the comedian tasted funny? Luckily there are (at least, as far as we know) no cannibals in Patong. Lucky, that is, for the three comedians who will be splitting sides at the next Punchline Comedy Club show at the Holiday Inn on October 14.
The headliner is Bob Mills, host of the cult show on Britain’s ITV channel, In Bed With Medinner (lots of vids here), along with the flagship daytime game show Win Lose or Draw as well as – more serious – documentary/interviews with Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Cher.
He has also turned his hand to screen writing and producing for TV, winning acclaim and award nominations for productions such as Bob Martin, My Beautiful Son, Stan the Man and Northern Lights.
André Vincent was apparently born in a Woolworth’s department store “and has not stopped appearing in the most unusual places since”. These include opening for the great Bob Hope, teaching Cliff Richard to pedal a unicycle and performing at a Vietnamese refugee camp in the South China Sea (booked by the Chinese government).
More conventionally, he’s played sell-out performances at the Edinburgh festival (he’s a member of the Fringe board) and has been on countless radio shows and panel games such as Have I Got News for You and Call My Bluff. He has a MySpace page here.
The third comedian is Barry Castagnola. He has been performing standup in the UK and internationally for over 6 years since blagging his way onto the stage at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He too has a long record of TV and radio appearances in the UK and roles in such movies as DoG, a darkly humorous tale revolving around a champion greyhound.
As well as being a popular compere, Barry regularly headlines gigs around the country. He has performed in New York, Ireland, The Melbourne Comedy Festival, Glastonbury and The Reading Festival. The Sunday Times described him as “the Tooting Popular Front for the No Logo generation”. Whatever that means. His website is here.
The doors at the Holiday Inn open at 8pm with the show starting 30 minutes later. Advance tickets are available for B960 from the hotel reception or from Woody’s Sandwich Shoppes in Patonmg, Chalong and Cherng Talay; or for B1,200 on the door. For booking info call 08 9646 9278 or see the event website.
