An ancient Egyptian pharaoh’s secret tomb and treasure has been discovered. Various bizarre international characters assemble to view it: a scheming professor, a voluptuous princess, a daffy housekeeper, a slick lounge lizard, an astute writer and a dealer in exotic antiques. Suddenly, gunshots ring out!

The archeological wonder becomes the focus of murder. Heated interrogations, shocking revelations and hilarious banter eventually give way to the dramatic realization of whodunit. When the killer is caught, the ancient gods of Egypt can rest easily … or can they?

That’s how playwrights’ representatives Samuel French Inc describe Death and Deceit on The Nile, by Peter DePietro. And it’s being brought to life in Phuket by the island’s own amateur theatrical group, the Andaman Players, next Saturday (August 15) at the Green Man pub.

Theatre lovers be warned: this is interactive drama – so expect to be entertained but maybe also to become part of the cast, especially if you like to sit up front.

The Phuket performance is directed by Denise Bertrand and stars such luminous local thespians as Garnett Symonds, Lauren Allmond, Tony Kelsey-Stead,  Michael Flynn and Tony Wilson.

Tickets are 980 baht, including dinner, if you book in advance (call 076 – 281445, ext 18, to do so), or B1,200 on the door. The Green Man is on the road to Kata, one kilometre from the Ha Yaek Chalong Circle. You can’t miss it – it’s the only half-timbered pub in Phuket.
