They – we’re not sure who “they” are – say that all little girls dream of becoming ballerinas. In Phuket, Karen Alexander’s Academy of Dance has been helping to make the dream come true for four years. And some of the girls are not so little, either – mums and grandmas also go there to feel young and dreamy again (and maybe to work off a little weight at the same time).

Each year Karen gets all her dozens of students, from the grannies down to the toddlers, involved in a dance extravaganza. This year is no exception, with the show scheduled for June 20 at the Mövenpick Resort on Karon Beach, from 5 to 8pm. There will be tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary – the three-hour show has it all, accompanied by great music and clever lighting.

For those who might be inspired by the show, but may be worried that following in the steps of Terpsichore may turn out to be more like Trip-sichore, Karen has some simple advice: “Always remember the most important lesson: To truly love to dance, you must start with your heart and your feet will follow. Keep dancing.”
